ENTRY 2 Chinese seal engraving ENTRY 2 Chinese seal engraving    Iteration #1 In the first iteration of my Chinese seal project what I did was to gather all the supplementsthat I need. Seal Stones (I have three seal stones at home they were a gift from my friend in china and at last I chose a small red one, because my research on line recommend me to use a smaller seal stone for the first try. ENTRY 3 Chinese seal engraving    Iteration #2 This literation is really stressful due to the many different experiments that I have to do.   At first I have to choose the right ink and control the portion of water to transfer calligraphy marks to the stone.   If I directly write on the stone then my name after curving will leave an inverse imprint on the rice paper.  It works the same way as a stamp, if we curve a stamp the same way as we use to write or draw, then the stamp after being stamped on a paper will leave an inverse imprint.                                      this is the failed example                                                 so i had to grain it and restart  ...

Chinese seal engraving

  ENTRY 1 Chinese seal engraving The object that I choose to make is a Calligraphy seal. Inspiration What inspired me to choose this object is my passion to Chinese traditional art. I have always loved my own culture, however in the years oversea, sometimes it is hard for me to access Chinese art culture. Now in a university of art, and with this opportunity put in front of me, I will want to explore and learn about Chinese seals in a close study. Basic plan My preliminary plan is to read the histories and articles that I find useful to me, and then get some particle materials for this project. As for my starting point, I will design words or patterns for the seal engraving. To get some tall rectangular eraser to practice on the carving skill is essential.
